August 11th marked an important day for Al Assme Osama, a UNIMY student and former Student Representative Council (SRC) President, who led an inspiring “Video Editing for Beginners” workshop for senior citizens. Held at BAC’s flagship campus in Petaling Jaya, the session drew around 30 enthusiastic participants eager to explore the creative world of digital storytelling.

Drawing on his experience as a former IT Department intern under Mr. Thillai, Al Assme guided participants through a practical, hands-on lesson using CapCut, one of today’s most popular and accessible video editing apps.

Learning to Tell Stories Through Video

Throughout the workshop, seniors picked up the basics of trimming video clips, adding background music, inserting captions and text, and applying smooth transitions — all to build short, engaging social media videos. What stood out most was how eager participants were to experiment and express themselves through this new medium.

It was a fitting reflection of UNIMY’s belief in lifelong learning and digital inclusivity for people of all ages. By bringing technology closer to the community, students like Al Assme are showing that the spirit of education extends well beyond the classroom.
