Bachelor of Computer Engineering (Hons)
Where hardware meets software. Where engineering meets the future.
AI-Driven University in Malaysia
(MyTech 2024)The world runs on chips. Every smartphone, every data centre, every electric vehicle, every AI system depends on hardware engineered at the circuit level. The people who design, build, and optimise that hardware are among the most critically needed engineers on the planet.
Malaysia is at the centre of this story. The country controls roughly 13% of global semiconductor assembly and testing capacity. Under the National Semiconductor Strategy, the government is targeting 60,000 highly skilled engineers by 2030. Right now, Malaysian universities produce around 5,000 engineering graduates a year against an industry demand of 50,000. That gap is not closing quickly. It is your opportunity.
This degree bridges the gap between computer science and electronics engineering. You will graduate with the rare combination of hardware depth and software fluency that top employers across semiconductor, defence, telecommunications, and smart technology sectors are actively competing to hire. Critically, this is the only pathway in Malaysia that gives you EAC accreditation and a direct route to becoming a registered Professional Engineer (Ir.) in the field of computing.
Why It Stands Out
- EAC accredited and BEM recognised. This is not just a degree. It is the first step toward Professional Engineer (Ir.) status — the highest formal recognition in the Malaysian engineering profession.
- Hardware and software in one programme. Circuit design, embedded systems, VLSI, digital signal processing, and computer networks sit alongside programming, operating systems, and software engineering. You graduate as a complete engineer.
- Built for the semiconductor era. As Malaysia moves up the semiconductor value chain into IC design, advanced packaging, and AI hardware, this degree puts you at the intersection of where the industry is heading.
Graduate Ready
When you finish this programme, you will have more than a degree. You will have professional engineering credentials, practical lab experience, industry-recognised certifications, and a clear pathway to becoming a registered Ingenieur (Ir.).
Future Careers
High-demand skills. Limitless possibilities.
Malaysia's semiconductor sector pulled in RM 28.5 billion in approved investments in 2025. The government's National Semiconductor Strategy targets moving the country from back-end assembly into IC design, advanced packaging, and innovation-led manufacturing. The industry needs 50,000 skilled engineers. Universities produce 5,000 a year. That is a tenfold gap — and it is not one that policy alone can close.
Computer engineers sit at the exact centre of this demand. The combination of hardware design expertise and software systems understanding is rare and extremely valuable across semiconductor, telecommunications, defence, automotive, and smart infrastructure sectors.
Professional Accreditation Pathway — This is the only UNIMY programme accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and recognised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Graduates register as Graduate Engineers (GE) upon completion and are eligible to progress toward full Professional Engineer (Ir.) status — the highest designation in the Malaysian engineering profession.

Why This Programme Matters
The Reality
- Malaysia controls approximately 13% of global semiconductor assembly and testing capacity.
- The National Semiconductor Strategy targets 60,000 highly skilled engineers by 2030.
- Malaysian universities produce approximately 5,000 engineering graduates per year against an industry demand of 50,000.
- The electrical and electronics sector attracted RM 28.5 billion in approved investments in 2025 alone.
- Malaysia is actively moving up the semiconductor value chain into IC design, advanced packaging, and AI hardware.
This is not a standard computer science programme with electronics modules added on. It is a full engineering degree that integrates both disciplines from the ground up. From the first semester, students work in hands-on lab environments with real circuits, real hardware, and real engineering constraints:
- Circuit design and analysis using industry-standard methodologies and tools
- Embedded systems programming on real microcontrollers and microprocessors
- VLSI design for integrated circuits, building toward IC design competency that Malaysia's semiconductor sector urgently needs
- Digital signal processing and communications engineering
- Engineering project management and professional practice
You Will Learn
The next generation of hardware is intelligent hardware. AI chips, neuromorphic processors, edge computing devices, and smart sensors are reshaping every sector that depends on electronics:
- AI hardware design and the architecture of intelligent computing systems
- IoT integration and smart system development using real sensor and actuator platforms
- Machine learning applications in signal processing, control systems, and embedded environments
- Responsible engineering and the ethics of autonomous and AI-enabled systems
- Advanced hardware-software integration
AI-Native Learning Experience
Learn with AI. Build with AI. Engineer with AI.
We do not treat AI as a secondary subject. The entire learning experience is structured around AI tools, AI reasoning, and immediate workforce readiness. You will work with AI-powered platforms every semester to design circuits, simulate systems, analyse signals, and build intelligent embedded solutions at professional speed.
Embedded Fluency
AI tools and concepts integrated into every relevant module, from circuit theory and digital electronics to software engineering and professional communication. You graduate as an engineer who naturally works alongside intelligent systems.
Engineering Lab Access
Purpose-built hardware labs with oscilloscopes, signal generators, embedded development boards, microcontrollers, and VLSI design tools — accessible throughout all four years, not just for scheduled classes.
Personalised Learning Analytics
Adaptive AI systems continuously monitor progress, identify weak areas, and adjust the learning pathway accordingly. You always know where you stand and what to focus on next.
Project-Led Assessment
Evaluation through engineering projects, lab practicals, design reviews, and final year capstone work that mirrors how leading engineering employers assess junior hires.
Leadership Engineering
Communication, engineering ethics, project management, and professional practice developed throughout all four years — technically rigorous and professionally confident from day one.
Industry Projects & Certifications
Real projects. Recognised certifications. Career advantage.
Students gain industry exposure throughout the programme — not only during final year. Through UNIMY's network of technology and engineering partners, students work on real challenges drawn from organisations at the frontlines of hardware, semiconductor, and smart technology development in Malaysia and the region.
UNIMY's Tech Talk series has brought active industry leaders onto campus for sessions on semiconductor engineering, IoT infrastructure, AI hardware, and Malaysia's National Semiconductor Strategy — connecting students directly with working engineers and technology leaders while still in the programme.

Our graduates are future-ready and in demand from the moment they complete this programme.
Malaysia's industrial transformation is government-backed and long-term. The National Semiconductor Strategy, NIMP 2030 smart factory agenda, and the country's deepening role in global electronics supply chains mean that demand for computer engineers with both hardware and software expertise will continue to outpace supply for years to come. UNIMY graduates enter this market with a rare dual competency that most other programmes do not produce.
Beyond technical skills, graduates hold a formal professional credential. Registration as a Graduate Engineer (GE) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia upon graduation opens the pathway to Professional Engineer (Ir.) status — the most prestigious engineering designation in Malaysia, required for senior roles across infrastructure, government, and regulated industries.
Career Pathways
Opportunities span semiconductor manufacturing, telecommunications, defence and aerospace, automotive electronics, smart infrastructure, IoT development, robotics and automation, and the growing ecosystem of AI hardware companies establishing operations in Malaysia — across Malaysia, Singapore, and internationally.
Progression Pathways
Graduates can continue into a Master of Science in Engineering or Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at UNIMY. UNIMY's international articulation agreements also provide pathways to partner universities in the United Kingdom and beyond.
