How Do I Get In?

COURSE MODULES

Year 1 

Introduction to Computing 

This introductory module takes a hands-on approach to nurture an understanding of how information technology can be used to increase productivity. A variety of popular and commonly used software packages are used during the practical work, including document preparation, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, electronic mail and groupware software. You'll also be taught the proper usage of common computer hardware. 

Problem Solving & Programming 

This module covers problem solving skills, writing algorithms, basic programming syntax, control structures, functions and arrays. This is designed to give students the ability to write simple console programs and to be able to understand such programs written by others programmer. 

Computing Mathematics 1 & 2

This 2-part module will prepare the students with the mathematical foundations for other Computer Science and Information Technology courses, with focus on the topics of data structures, algorithms, database theory, computer security and operating systems. 

Cyberpreneurship 

Learn how to become a cyberpreneur: tech-based entrepreneurs of the future, with this class. The module comprises of two parts: product development and, commercialising the product. You will gain exposure to the principles of e-commerce, the internet and the web infrastructure for e-commerce, web-based tools for e-commerce, current trends in the use of e-commerce, and much more. 

Pengajian Malaysia 2/Malaysian Studies 2

This unit focuses on applying the values ​​of unity and integration of Malaysians as well as fostering the spirit of patriotism and nationalism in addition to fostering a sense of goodwill among the Malaysian community.

Issues in the Malaysian Economy 

The focus of this module is on the problems and issues that affect individuals, firms and governments. It is to relate the content of economics to the economic problems and issues experienced by individuals and society. The key issues consist of economic growth and quality of life, unemployment, inflation, external stability, distribution of income and environmental sustainability. 

  Object-Oriented Programming

This module is designed to build your ability to identify solutions to computational problems using object-oriented concepts, capture reusable patterns of design, and write programs using object-oriented programming languages. Focus will be given to in-depth coverage of high-level abstraction of objects, Abstract Data Types, Object Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, and programming methodology. 

Operating Systems 

This module is designed to give you exposure to the fundamentals of operating system including process, management of memory, file and I/O and also about CPU scheduling. The introduction part consists of the evolution of operating system since it started until now. You will also learn about the basic concepts, technology and theory used in operating system such as concurrency, kernel, deadlock and multithreading.

Networking Fundamentals 

The module is an introduction to Networks and Computer Communications, Data Communications, and networking concerns regarding the transportation of data between computers. In this module, you will learn the theoretical and practical aspects of data communications and networking. 

Digital & Cyber Laws 

Learn the many different types of cybercrime, how to identify cybercriminal activity, and how companies and law enforcement agencies are responding to the dangers these crimes present. 

Cognitive Process & Problem Solving 

This module provides an introductory level of human cognitive processes, with focus on how we process information. The module will allow you to explore critical issues related to education, along with sense making on a personal and social level. You will also be introduced to various heuristic frameworks, and apply appropriate strategies for learning, thinking and problem-solving. 

Database Information Systems 

This module explores the fundamental concepts necessary for the design, use and implementation of database and document management systems. A particular emphasis is placed on the relational database model. 

Effective Communication – Workplace & Persuasive Presentation 

Effective communication is the key to success in professional and personal endeavors. The right strategy, carefully chosen words, and respect extended through communication can be the making of a team or an individual. This module outlines different paradigms for communication, explores interpersonal communication and its applications in the workplace, and much more. You will be assessed through a series of activities, including role-plays, oral presentations, and written reports and examinations. 

Year 2

Introduction to Information Security 

Gain a fundamental understanding of information and computer security technology, including issues such as security policy and technical approaches. It also involves the protection mechanisms supported by modern processors and operating systems. 

Internetworking Security 

Explore and examine the principles, mechanisms, and implementation of network security and data protection systems. The topics of learning will help students with the fundamentals of network security. Topics include Introduction to Security, Network Security, Administering a secure network, Wireless Network Security and Authentication and Account Management. 

Internetworking Technologies 

Designed to give you the ability to managing the existing network infrastructure, this module provides a general introduction to hardware, software and networking devices, and software to manage computer networks.

Information Technology Security Management & Auditing 

The goal of the module is to provide students with an overview of the field of Information Security and Auditing from a managerial perspective. You will be exposed to the spectrum of security management and audit activities, methods, methodologies, and procedures. Topics covered will include inspection and protection of information assets, the management of risk, the detection of and reaction to threats to information assets, and an overview of Information Security Planning. 

Computer Architecture 

The module introduces 3 main themes, which are: the internal structure of the digital computer, classic Von Neumann architecture, and the relationship between high-level language constructs and their implementation, are investigated through the use of Assembly Languages and C programming. 

Community Service

Through Community Service, you will learn to critically evaluate information, both in and out of the classroom, and to make valid, sound decisions. You will appreciate how to live, work, and learn respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, through the act of giving back to the community. 

Secure Software 

This module is designed to provide you with an understanding of the planning and delivery of software systems. The subject lay the foundations of knowledge of the various issues and scenarios that security developers face in cyber-crime world. 

Risk Management 

Examine the way in which businesses and society make an assessment of, control, and transfer risks. The goal of this module is to engage students in active discovery of risk management principles. You will be prepared to function in a business environment, developing an awareness of the challenges, tools, and process of designing and implementing a risk management program. 

Internet Server Technologies 

Web server applications allow system administrators to utilise data for the use of an organisation. This subject will provide a foundational understanding on web server applications, focusing on SAS systems, and the basic management of SAS web server applications. 

Introduction to Ethical Hacking & Intrusion Prevention 

Get a comprehensive overview of ethical hacking. You will cover topics in intrusion detection involving Scanning and System Footprinting, Hacking, Virus and Trojan construction, IDS and Firewall systems, and Honeypot design. This module will immerse you in an interactive environment where you will be shown how to scan, test, hack, and secure their own systems. 

Systems Analysis & Design 

This module explores the fundamental concepts necessary for the design, use and implementation of database and document management systems. A particular emphasis is placed on the relational database model.

Operating Systems & Concepts

This module explores the fundamental concepts which are necessary for a computer operating system. The emphasis of the module is placed on the both hardware and software operation that are managed by computer operating system.

Year 3

Forensics in Digital Security 

This module focuses on computer and cyber forensics. Learn about the different aspects of computer and cyber crimes, and how to uncover, protect, exploit, and document digital evidence. You will also learn how to utilise different types of tools (both software and hardware), techniques and procedures, gaining the ability to use them to perform basic forensic investigations. Collaborative and action-learning experiences will be incorporated.

Final Year Project 

This project is a capstone design experience which involves system design specification, system implementation, and system evaluation. Assessment will be based on a written report, demonstration and oral presentation. You will be encouraged to apply their knowledge to a specific topic, and develop their organisational, theoretical, and applied skills.

Practical Training

This module is designed to prepare you for the field of cybersecurity in a real world setting. It will also give the organisation the opportunity to train you to cater for the industry demands upon your graduation.

Introduction to Human Computer Interactions 

Human Computer Interactions (HCI) is a study of how people interact with computers. This module will introduce the fundamental aspects of HCI. You will learn and put into practice, approaches of design, and the implementation of usable human-computer interactions, taking into account the Malaysian context. You will also evaluate interfaces, which incorporate design, administration, analysis, and reporting of usability evaluation. 

Introduction to Cryptography 

This module aims to give you a general understanding of computer security technology, include security policies and engineering, as well as cryptography mechanisms. 

Network Infrastructure 

The module provides a fundamental walk-through on networks and computer communication infrastructure, with particular focus on a discussion of the OSI layered model. It also covers LAN and WAN design, implementation, and application within organisations. 

Data Centre & Cloud Management 

The first half of this module is an introduction to data centers, and fundamental concepts, which cover their design, architecture, and security. The second half of the module will cover the management of cloud technology. 

Basic Concepts of Marketing

This module covers key marketing concepts, marketing process and factors that influence marketing strategies. Discussion includes major environmental forces that affect marketing and elements of the marketing mix and difference between the buying behaviors of final consumers and business customers is discussed. It also includes issues related to international marketing such as the global marketing environment as well as product and promotion strategies.
