Bernama - UNIMY focuses on IR4.0 to ensure graduates meet industry needs

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 -- University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UNIMY) is emphasising the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) features in its learning system in an effort to produce graduates who meet the needs of major national and foreign industries.

Chairman of the UNIMY's Board of Governors Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said said for that purpose, the institution focused on eight areas of specialisation in its teaching system including Internet of Everything (IOE) as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Intelligent Machine.

Also in focus are Human-Machine Interaction; Cross Reality (XR) (Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality); Cyber Security; Cloud Computing; Coding as well as Business Computing, he said.

“With these industry-driven programmes, UNIMY students will go through a complete academic programme that will prepare them to be productively involved in the development of the country.

"UNIMY's programmes are also very niche and specifically aimed at improving students' skills in facing the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0," he told Bernama in an interview at Wisma Bernama recently.

Hassan said the university offers Diploma in Computer Science (Game Development), Diploma in Interactive and Digital Media, Diploma in Information Technology (Cyber Security) and Diploma in Information Systems (Business Computing).

It also offers Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Software Engineering, Bachelor of Computer Engineering and Bachelor of Business Administration (Management Information Systems).

“As a digital technology university, UNIMY offers the latest academic programmes as well as prepares students to face the challenging work environment in the future.

"We are confident that strong basic knowledge and digital competencies would make UNIMY students competitive graduates in the country's digital industry," he said.

Hassan also explained that the teaching method is no longer focused on the use of reading materials only, but more on technology to attract students in the interactive learning.

“In teaching, it is very important to use tools or use pedagogical method, which is more to pictures, animations or videos to attract students.

“We want to have a teaching system that uses self-instructional materials which indirectly allows students to learn on their own," he said.

Based on a 2019 data, Hassan said 100 per cent of UNIMY graduates managed to get jobs with high starting salaries.

Apart from that, he said UNIMY's collaboration with its parent company, Serba Dinamik Group Bhd had given a lot of inspiration to students and graduates of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), to drive human capital and national development.

He added that the director and chief executive officer of Serba Dinamik Group Datuk Dr Ir Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah had encouraged many youths and graduates to equip themselves with the skills that were attractive to key industries.

UNIMY, which was established in 2012, now has almost 400 students and has set a target of 900 students by the end of this year. -- BERNAMA
