On 29 and 30 September, 7 students from UniMy namely, Mimi Sofea, Nur Syazfatin, Nurul Azwa, Harith, Timothy, Abdul Rahman and Rukesh attended the Student Leadership Seminar 2016 held at HELP College Arts and Technology. There were also student leaders from 18 other Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi Swasta (IPTS) within the Central Zone that attended this seminar.
This seminar was conducted in a form of a talk show, where student leaders were given the opportunity to engage with the guests. Those who were present on that day were local, renowned leaders such as our very own Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato' Seri Idris Bin Jusoh, Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC)’s Executive Director of Social Entrepreneurship, Mr. Ehon Chan, and even the Editor and Executive Producer of R.AGE, Mr. Ian Yee. It was a beneficial session for the students as they were able to voice out their concerns regarding local issues that are occurring in universities in Malaysia as well as bringing about questions on how to be an effective leader.
They were also given hands-on activities where they put their leadership skills to the test. The activities include making a two-minute video on one of the goals set by the United Nation’s (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and upload it up to YouTube. All in all, the activities served not only as a platform for student leaders to put on their ‘thinking caps’, but also as a medium for networking and socializing. Armed with these skills, students hope to be able to lead their peers to success and bring an ever continuous improvement to their institute.
