On 29 March 2016, the Faculty of Computing has organised an industrial talk titled ‘Mobile Development’. The talk was delivered by Dr Vee Voon Yee, Principal Engineer at True Solar (S) Pte Ltd, who shared his vast experiences in mobile development with students taking ‘Industrial Workshop’ and ‘Cyberpreneurship’ classes at the University.
During the talk, Dr Vee spoke on the general criteria to become a mobile developer, as well as the hard skills and soft skills needed. He shared some of the mobile projects he participated, and explained the phases involved in developing mobile applications. Dr Vee also gave a variety of personal tips based on his own experiences, from mobile programming skills and tools, to different roles in development team, and how to deal with the clients. In order to encourage the students to have a kick-start in mobile development, he advised them to come out with an idea that is not only creative but at the same time practical and useful.
The talk ended with a ‘Question and Answer’ session, where the students took the opportunity to pose questions to Dr Vee, seeking his views and insights pertaining to the topic presented. Overall the talk was a success with much positive feedbacks from the students. Through the talk, the students gained better understanding on the industrial needs in mobile development, and how they can apply their classroom theories to the workplace.
