On 14 August 2017, lecturers from UNIMY’s Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Computer Engineering visited Universiti of Malaya (UM) for benchmarking purposes. Such visits are conducted once every two years to compare the courses offered in UNIMY with similar institutions.
UM was chosen for this particular visit because of the Electrical Engineering course offered, which is ranked 23rd
in the world by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2017 and first in Malaysia. To read more about this ranking, check it out here
Representatives from UNIMY for the visit include Ir. Noor Iziddin Abdullah Bin Hj Ghazali (Dean, Faculty of Engineering); Dr. Nor Azlinah Md. Lazam (Assistant Professor); Dr. Nur Diyana Kamarudin (Assistant Professor) and Nurmala Irdawaty Hassan (Lecturer). We were greeted at UM by Prof. Ir. Dr. Hazlie Mokhlis, Dr. Mohamad Sofian Abu Talip and Dr. Sharifah Fatmadiana.
The areas focused for this benchmarking visit were the following:
- The percentage of open-ended lab session in the course
- The important criteria for academic promotion
- The KPI for students’ achievements
- The Capstone Project of the course
- The measure of soft skills
- Other activities conducted involving the industry
Hopefully, through this visit, we are able to learn ways we can improve our courses for the benefit of our students.
